hand-wringing

By Diogenes ( articles ) | Jan 16, 2004

Q. How do you know a liberal's running scared?
A. When he attributes his adversaries' motives to fear.

The folks at the The Tablet (you remember -- "loyalty in difficult times") are patting their pockets for the Valium after a first glance at a draft of the new Missal.

It also reflects a new fear [told you! ]. Cardinal Arinze, in a recent book-length interview with Gerard O’Connell, is scathing of priests who “arrange something on Saturday evening, and force it down the throats of the people on Sunday morning, and then turn around and call it ‘inculturation’, using the people as ecclesiastical guinea pigs on which to test their latest productions”. It is a telling image of how the CDW these days sees itself -- saving congregations from the clutches of a vaudeville-loving clergy.

Well, as fear-driven savior complexes go, I'd say this is one of the best.
