The flock calls the shepherd

By Diogenes ( articles ) | May 24, 2003

1) Under heavy pressure from a persistent, noisy, and energetic pro-life protest campaign, Worcester's Bishop Daniel Reilly decided not to attend commencement ceremonies at Holy Cross College, where the pro-abortion news commentator Chris Matthews was the main speaker.

2) After the ceremony, Matthews commented that he didn't understand all the fuss, since Bishop Reilly had been sitting happily beside him last year when he (Matthews) received an honorary degree from Anna Maria College (another Catholic school in the Worcester diocese).

Conclusion: Getting a bishop to do the right thing is like getting water to flow uphill. It can be done, if you apply enough pressure. But it's never going to happen by itself.
