By choosing the vice president to move up to the presidency, the US bishops have confirmed their confidence in the current leadership of their episcopal conference.
It's nice somebody has that confidence. You'd be hard pressed to find it anywhere outside the ballroom of the Capitol Hyatt this week.
But to be fair, Bishop Skylstad is in the process of acquiring experience that could be helpful in his new position. He's reportedly preparing a bankruptcy filing for his Spokane diocese-- a sure sign of the firm leadership that American bishops want.
