DIRECTIONS
The feast of the Holy Innocents, the little ones who were slain for Christ by Herod (Matthew 2:16), was celebrated as a special feast day for children from the eleventh century on. It became a custom, not only in the homes of the faithful, but also in convents and monasteries to serve "baby food" (some kind of pabulum, usually cream of wheat with milk, sugar and cinnamon) to the youngest ones, i.e., to the children in families and to the novices in religious houses, at the evening meal.
