Vatican reportedly rejects trappings of state visit during journey to England

December 18, 2009

The Vatican has rejected some of the trappings of an official state visit for Pope Benedict’s upcoming journey to the United Kingdom, according to British media reports. The Pontiff will reportedly stay in the nunciature rather than in Buckingham Palace and will not take part in an offcial state dinner.

The Vatican has not officially confirmed plans for the papal visit, but sources in London have indicated that it will take place in September. Ordinarily the Vatican does not release a full schedule for a foreign visit by the Pope until a few weeks before the trip.
