Irish bishop must resign, say parents of abuse victim who killed himself
December 04, 2009
The parents of Peter McCloskey, an Irish abuse victim who took his own life in 2006, have called upon Bishop Donal Murray of Limerick to resign after a report condemned the prelate’s response to abuse allegations as Auxiliary Bishop of Dublin. Bishop Murray “should stand aside and be subject to the discipline he, and his fellow bishops, impose on all priests,” the parents said.
Citing the support she has received from Bishop Murray, McCloskey’s widow, however, said that the bishop should continue to serve in his position.
