Christian church bombed in India's Tamil Nadu state

A Protestant church in India's southern Tamil Nadu state was hit by a bombing on Saturday night, November 28. The explosion ripped through a church on the outskirts of the town of Nagercoll just after choir members had left the building following a late rehearsal. According to reports, the bomb was planted in a hole in the wall and even interior walls were damaged by the impact of the blast.
Due to opposition from Hindu fundamentalists, the local Christians had to get permission from the court to worship in the church, which was built in 2005. Although Hindus form the majority in the state, nearly half of the 2 million people living in the Kanyakumari district, where the bombing occurred, are Christians.
