Indian bishops propose annual commemoration of slain Orissa Christians

The commission for ecumenism of the Bishops Conference of India has proposed aNational Day for Indian Martyrs to commemorate Christians who were slain in 2008 during the violence in the eastern Indian state of Orissa. The ecumenical commemoration, if adopted, would take place each year on the last Sunday in August.
