Israel cracks down on 'unauthorized' Palestinian residences, not Israeli settlers
November 04, 2009
Israel courts are ousting Palestinian families from their homes in Jerusalem, and the Israeli government is aiding the process by demolishing homes in the region, in a crackdown on "unauthorized" residences. The aggressive action against Palestinian families who have set up residence without proper legal authorization is in marked contrast to the Israeli attitude toward settlers on the West Bank who are also living in "unauthorized" homes. The contrast is likely to become a more contentious issue in light of a new US policy decision urging Palestinian officials to resume talks with Israel even without a promised halt to the development of Israeli settlements.
