Indiana bishop mandates Communion in the hand, orders holy water removed from fonts Facebook Twitter October 30, 2009

In response to concerns over the spread of the H1N1 virus, Bishop William Higi of Lafayette, Indiana, has mandated the distribution of Holy Communion in the hand and ordered parishes to remove holy water from fonts. Like several other bishops, he has also suspended the practices of distributing the Precious Blood in a chalice and shaking hands during the sign of peace.
