Holy See envoy to UN presses for acceptance of nuclear pacts

The Vatican's representative to the UN has exhorted member nations to ratify international agreements against the testing and proliferation of nuclear weapons. Archbishop Dominique Mamberti reiterated the support of the Holy See for "progressive and concerted nuclear disarmament." He asked nations that have not already done so to ratify the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, and encouraged support for a pact establishing nuclear-free zones, particularly in the Middle East.
