Colombia: bishops question wisdom of another presidential term

Catholic bishops in Colombia are raising questions about the wisdom of a third consecutive term from President Alvaro Uribe. At a meeting of the episcopal conference, some bishops suggested that Uribe should not run for re-election. Cardinal Pedro Rubian Saenz of Bogota said that he admired the president, but “two terms is a lot.” He recommended that Uribe leave office at the conclusion of his term-- allowing that he could run for the presidency again at some future point.
