Spanish bishops instruct Catholic lawmakers to oppose liberalization of abortion law

The Spanish bishops have asked Catholic lawmakers to oppose a new measure by the Socialist government that would broaden the scope of legal abortion. The legislation, which treats access to abortion as a right, would be "a poisonous source of immorality and injustice," the bishops said. The new legislation is expected to pass despite the opposition of the hierarchy.
