Another promising advance in adult stem-cell research
April 24, 2009
California scientists have found a new technique for "reprogramming" adult skin cells, so that the cells mimic the ability of embryonic stem cells for developing into different sorts of body tissue. Although the promising results in medical research using stem cells have come almost exclusively from studies using adult stem cells, scientists continue to seek support for embryonic stem-cell research because the embryonic cells are more adaptable. The prospect of making adult cells equally adaptable could eliminate the argument for destructive embryo research.
