Plans announced for Pontifical Franciscan University in Rome
December 02, 2015
The heads of the four largest male Franciscan communities—the Order of Friars Minor, the Conventual Franciscans, the Capuchin Franciscans, and the Franciscan Friars of the Third Order Regular—have announced that they intend to establish a Pontifical Franciscan University in Rome by 2018.
“We believe that now is the time for a significant transformation of our presences in the academic world of Rome,” the ministers general said in a November 29 letter. “Our strengths must not continue to be divided; instead, our common ministry and identity in the field of scholarship should bring about a pooling of resources.”
