Communist officials in China demolished crosses at five Catholic churches in Zhejiang province on July 2.
“The authorities told our priests either allow the cross to be removed or have the whole church building demolished,” a source told UCA News. “It was a dilemma, and they were inclined to compromise.”
Crosses have been removed from over 1,100 Protestant and Catholic churches in China since 2013, according to the report.
