Bishop Thomas Tobin of Providence, Rhode Island, has offered his support for conscientious objection in response to the Supreme Court ruling that requires legal recognition of same-sex marriages.
Reacting to a statement by a country clerk in Texas, who said that she would refuse to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, Bishop Tobin said: “Congratulations to Ms. Lang for her courageous stand! We need many more conscientious objectors—public officials, private businesses, advertisers, religious leaders, and family members—people of courage who will abide by their conscience, protect their religious rights, and not support or enable the furtherance of this moral aberration—so called, “same-sex marriage.”

The freedom from marriage juggernaut (falsely labeled "Gay Marriage") received a major impetus from the U.S. Bishops who did not extend the charity of excommunication to public figures who claim to be Catholic, but who vote and live in mocking contradiction to it's teachings. That is where we apparently lost the battle. The Bishops ought to at least obey Canon Law themselves to show the way.

Thank God, also, for Bishop Tobin. I'm still waiting for Cardinal Dolan (NY) to speak up.

If any of the Bishops want their people to put their jobs or businesses on the line to support the Church's position on so-called "same sex marriage", abortion, etc. then the Bishops need to refuse communion to politicians and other public figures who enable and support these moral abominations.
