Pope leads Stations of the Cross in Roman Coliseum

April 03, 2015

Pope Francis presided at the Stations of the Cross in the Roman Coliseum on Good Friday, April 3.

The meditations for the traditional ceremony-- written by Bishop Renato Corti of Novara, Italy—centered on the realization that the Crucifixion is the ultimate expression of God’s love.

In the meditations, Bishop Corti reflected on those who are suffering and dying for Christ today; he mentioned Shahbaz Bhatti, the Pakistani government minister who was killed in 2011 after coming to the defense of religious minorities. The meditations also recalled the suffering of innocent victims, such as children who are abused or enslaved.
