Before trip to Albania, Pope prays at St. Mary Major

In preparation for his September 21 apostolic journey to Albania, Pope Francis made a visit to the Papal Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, to pray before the image of the Virgin, Salus Populi Romani.
The Pope prayed for nearly 30 minutes, placing his trip under the patronage of the Blessed Mother, and then left after placing a bouquet at the foot of the famous image.
Pope Francis has made a habit of visiting St. Mary Major at important times in his pontificate, especially before apostolic journeys.
