Full schedule set for Pope's August visit to Korea

June 18, 2014

The Vatican has released the full schedule for the August visit by Pope Francis to Korea.

The Pope will leave Rome on Wednesday afternoon, August 13, on an overnight flight that will arrive in Seoul on Thursday morning. His first full day in Seoul will have a light schedule, with a private Mass followed by a courtesy meeting at the presidential meeting, an address to political authorities, and a meeting with the Korean bishops.

On Friday, August 15, the feast of the Assumption, the Pope will travel by helicopter to Daejeon, where he will celebrate Mass in a soccer stadium. After lunch with young people at the local seminary he will continue by helicopter to the shrine of Solmoe, then return to Seoul for the night.

On Saturday the Pope will begin his day with a visit to the shrine of the Martyrs of Seo So Mun. Then he will celebrate the beatification of Paul Yun Ji-Chung and his 123 companions martyrs: another outdoor ceremony in Seoul. Following afternoon visits to several Catholic charitable institutions, he will again return to Seoul for the night.

On Sunday, August 17, after a meeting with Asian bishops, Pope Francis will celebrate Mass to mark the conclusion of the 6th Asian Youth Day.

On Monday, August 18, the Pope will meet with religious leaders in Seoul, then celebrate a Mass for reconciliation at the city’s cathedral, before heading for the Seoul airport and his flight home. He is due back in Rome the same day (because of the time change) late in the afternoon.
