French laity launch international drive to show support for Pontiff

Over 40,000 people have signed an online statement of support for Pope Benedict XVI in his efforts to achieve reconciliation with the Society of St. Pius X. Originally begun in France, the signature drive quickly won backing from Bishops Dominique Rey of Fréjus-Toulon, André Fort of Orléans, and Marc Aillet of Bayonne of Lescar and Oloron. The statement has quickly grown into an international effort, with translations in several languages.
