Belarus denies visa extensions for Catholic priests

December 19, 2008

Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz of Minsk has voiced concerns about the government's decision not to extend the visas of three foreign Catholic priests serving in Belarus. ?"There are not enough Catholic priests in Belarus," the archbishop said. If the government does not allow priests from other countries to serve there, he said, the Catholic population of Belarus-- estimated at 1.5 million-- will suffer.
