Irish broadcast authority bars ad for Catholic bishops' bookstore
December 04, 2008
The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) has barred the use of a radio advertisement for Christian books as Christmas gifts. The ad was submitted by Veritas, the bookstore operated by the Catholic bishops' conference. The BCI ruled that my advertising the books it could be engaged in promotion of religion, which is prohibited for government broadcasting. Dublin's Archbishop Diarmuid Martin described the decision as "bizarre."
