Pope urges banks: remember needy families, small businesses

In times of economic crisis, financial institutions should serve the needs of struggling families and small firms, Pope Benedict XVI said during his weekly audience on December 3. As he greeted various groups in attendance, after delivering his usual catechetical talk, the Pope acknowledged an association of Italian bankers. He told them: "This period of difficulty for so many families gives me the opportunity to highlight one of the primary objectives of banking institutes, that is solidarity towards societies weakest and support for small companies."
