EU bishops' commission welcomes decision not to patent embryonic stem cells

The Commission of Bishops' Conferences of the European Community (COMECE) has welcomed the announcement that the European Patent Office will not provide patents for embryonic stem cells. Father Piotr Mazurkiewicz, the secretary-general of COMECE, said the ruling was "an important signal towards the protection of human embryos."
