DC-area priests discouraged CCHD donations
November 26, 2008
Several priests of the Diocese of Arlington, citing concerns over past donations, encouraged their parishioners not to contribute to the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) collection last weekend. ‘I personally haven't given a dime to the Campaign for Human Development in years,’ said Father John DeCelles of St. Mary’s Church in Alexandria. Father Thomas Vander Woude said in his parish bulletin that in the 1990s CCHD ‘contributed to organizations diametrically opposed to the Catholic Church, i.e. the pro-abortion group National Organization for Women and the American Civil Liberties Union.’
