Venezuela: Chavez claims victory in elections

President Hugo Chavez, whose supporters had vandalized churches ahead of yesterday’s elections, claimed victory in gubernatorial and mayoral elections after his party won races in at least 17 out of 20 states. The opposition, however, scored important gains in state and mayoral races around Caracas.
