Church leaders condemn vigilante justice in Kenya

Church leaders in Kenya's Mombasa archdiocese have denounced an episode of 'vigilante justice' in which 11 young men were hanged by villagers who suspected them of responsibility for a wave of violent crime. Tacitly acknowledging complaints about ineffective police work, the archdiocese called for stricter law enforcement, but added that if citizens take the law into their own hands, "there will be total breakdown in moral values, law and order."
