Fargo bishop emphasizes sanctity of life, prays for Obama’s conversion
November 18, 2008
In a newly published diocesan newspaper column, Bishop Samuel Aquila of Fargo congratulated President-elect Barack Obama and assured him of his ‘prayers and the prayers of the faithful of the Diocese of Fargo in the immense responsibilities that he will undertake as president. One of those prayers will be for the conversion of his heart and mind to recognize the dignity of human life from the moment of conception until natural death and the truth that no government has the right to legalize abortion.’
In the remainder of the column, Bishop Aquila addressed misunderstandings about Catholic teaching on abortion and emphasized the obligation of Catholics to work to protect the life of the unborn.
