Archbishop confirms: beatification soon for Cardinal Newman

At a Mass ending the public veneration of Cardinal Newman, Birmingham's Archbishop Vincent Nichols said: "The Church is about to declare him blessed." For most of this year, rumors of an imminent Vatican announcement on the cause have been circulating-- although early in October, the Birmingham Oratory disclosed that theologians had asked for more time to examine a miracle attributed to Cardinal Newman's intercession.
