PRELATE NULLIUS

A territory belonging to no diocese but having its own superior called a "prelate nullius," and its own clergy and congregation. If such a territory comprises a certain number of parishes, the prelate set over the area enjoys a jurisdiction similar to that of a bishop in residence.
