The Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams describes the spiritual transformation he underwent at age 14 after having attended a Russian Orthodox Mass:

Dr Williams said: "When I came away, I felt I had seen glory and praise for the first time. I felt I had seen and heard people who were behaving as if God were real."

"I came away with the sense of absolute objectivity and majesty and beauty of God which I have never forgotten. If people worshipped like this, I felt God must be a great deal more real (than) even I have learnt him so far."

"Even I," sayest thou?

Modulo the obligatory head-pat, your Grace, that is a beautiful testimony to the power of God-centered liturgy. You're in a better position than any man in the Anglican communion to make your liturgical aspirations a reality.

    Re: clown "Mass" photo - - How? Why? - - would any priest so profane the Mass, the Holy Eucharist with this kind of behavior? God will not be mocked, fellas. Just wonder what your reason/explanation for this is? Never mind. I don't want to know.

    Somewhere in my training I failed to learn about the connection between clowns and the Mass. Can someone enlighten me, since this connection is not uncommon?

    And we know that that isn't Cardinal Mahony as the main celebrant (if this is a Catholic Mass)... for there is actual sacred architecture in the background... And pray, pray, pray for holiness, boldness, courage, orthodoxy amongst our priests and bishops...

    It's a good thing for young Rowan that his attraction to Russian Orthodox worship didn't take him into the Russian Orthodox Church. Can you imagine what THEY would do to a priest who turned up in a rubber nose and red wig?

    The Clown's name is "the word", or "glory and praise", which the onlookers are seeing for the very first time. God is funny. He will tickle yur funny bone. He's not at all scarey, Archbishop. This is very colorful. i think i'm getin it ;)
