the mentor

By Diogenes (bio - articles ) | Aug 08, 2005

Brother Anthony, 61, as a Marist Brother has dedicated his life to telling "the children that Jesus and Mary love them all very much."

As the new principal at Sante Fe High School in Florida, he announced last Thursday that he wants to "spend more time on spiritual development."

That evening, his meditations drew him to a nearby park where he engaged in some evangelization.... of two undercover cops.

No word yet from the Marists or the diocese on whether Brother Anthony will continue his spiritual mentoring programs.

Comparing "heterosexual sins" of the clergy with problem of homosexual clergy is akin to comparing a puddle by the side of the road with the Atlantic ocean.

And the problem for the New York City "affair" is the hetereosexual clergy. Guess sin is a problem for both straits & gays. Show me the way to go home ---

Let's pray for Brother Anthony. And let's pray that someone in authority ensures that Br. Anthony always has supervision whenever he is in the presence of other people. He needs to go to a Carthusian monastery, where he can be locked in an individual cell & he can do penance & pray for the rest of his life... (he can attend Mass each day at the monastery; & eat meals in the refectory, with supervision, & all due charity, of course). He'll be joined by Can. 401-2 bishops, religious superiors.

The sad fact is that modern religious for the most part laugh at obedience and rebel against order. someone has to take the bull by the horns.

I'm all for the nuclear option...they must be all weeded out.

As ugly as this is, it proves that the problem of homosexual clergy is not 20 years removed...it is current. Until the American Bishops get serious, the Chicks and Clouds and secular media are going to have plenty of grist for their mills. To the Fishermans and Art Kellys in the Church...we cannot hide these sins...we must face them head-on remove them from our midst, in the same way Christ evicted the moneychangers from the temple.

It is unfortunate but true that the seamy side of life is news. Catholics need to be informed about the state of the Church, including the state of the souls charged with education of our children. The cleansing must continue.

What I get out of this post is NOT "let's glory in a bit of muck-raking", but as a Church and as individuals, what do our words mean. What is "spiritual development" cut adrift from a Catholic understanding of sin and redemption? To the detractors here, just read the actual Commitment on the Marist website linked in Diogenes' first line: "and we need you to stay intolerant of duplicity and to call us to account when we start to compromise and accommodate".

Where has this guy been for the last 3 years? How can he be so clueless?

I agree with Fisherman. If we want to be subject to this kind of mean spirited abuse, we could read Jack Chick and David Cloud. Even a secular newspaper would not sink as low as Diogenes.

Such hypocrisy! Didn't this guy make observable waves earlier? I mean, by 61 he's a pretty rank voyeur.

Why DO this trash? The point is a religious brother and Catholic high school principal actually DID this. If you can't stomach the ugly truth, don't look.

why spread this trash,,, shame on you.

At least he only wanted to watch. The most interesting thing will be how The Florida Catholic plays the story. And if.
