150 US Catholic schools have links to Planned Parenthood

April 11, 2011

At least 150 Catholic colleges and universities in the US have provided some support for Planned Parenthood, the Cardinal Newman Society has disclosed.

In a detailed new report, the Cardinal Newman Society shows how Catholic schools have given Planned Parenthood opportunities to provide counseling and referrals, to recruit interns and offer fellows, to participate in campus events, and to make presentations to student audiences.

The Cardinal Newman Society shows connections between Planned Parenthood and such prominent Catholic institutions as Notre Dame, Georgetown, Boston College, Marquette, and many others.

(CWN posted a series of reports on links between Planned Parenthood and Catholic colleges and universities, over a period of weeks in late 2009 and early 2010. To sample those links, use the "Advanced Search" tool, set the appropriate time parameters, and enter terms such as "planned parenthood catholic university.")

Do the bishops responsible for these institutions believe that college students can't look up the address of an abortion clinic in the phone book or on the Internet? Is that why they allow a presence of Planned Parenthood on campus despite the implied endorsement of abortion by a "Catholic" college? Any competent bishop would order the college to remove Planned Parenthood from its campus or any reference to "Catholic" from the institution immediately.

For Catholic leadership to be promoting the largest abortion provider in the world is simply shameful. No Catholic should ever set foot in, or have any association with, an organization that exists for the gruesome destruction of tiny babies with souls from our Lord. Women can get their Pap tests and other healthcare in thousands of other qualified centers nationwide. There is no reason for any Catholic woman to set foot in a place where babies are being thrown in the trash.

Margaret Sanger would be feeling very proud if she were alive. This situation clearly shows that most Catholic universities are Catholic only in name and I blame the bishops of these United States for this sad situation.

    When will this stop?

It is impossible to reconcile the evil of abortion, defined by the Church as an "abominable crime" with the mission of higher education. Since the Catholic Church was founded by Jesus Christ, its mission in the world is to proclaim the truth manifested in his life and entrusted to the Church. Every and any institution which bears the name Catholic, such as hospitals, schools, and media is bound to honor and uphold the teachings of the Church or forfeit the right to call itself Catholic.

Well done Cardinal Newman Society! Their report raises many questions. It is one more example of pandering to academic prejudice, which is expected for secular Colleges but not for Catholic Colleges. I wonder do the Catholic Colleges even provide similar facilities and spend the same (donated) dollars for right-to life organizations.

Somehow this needs to be dealt with and get these institutions out from hiding behind 'academic freedom'. Whether they agree with it or not, they are participating in forming the individuals who "grace their hallowed halls". Yet another example of no faith, no belief in the reality of God - the reality of the person of a creator. Apparently being Catholic has come down to belonging to a club. Praise the Lord for His mercy; Dear Lord, when you do correct, please let your Mercy prevail.
