Vatican official emerges as key figure on Vatican-China ties

Archbishop Savio Hon Tai Fai, the secretary of the Congregation for Evangelization, has become an important figure in the formation of Vatican policies toward China, reports Sandro Magister of L'Espresso.

The Chinese bishop, who recently aired his own views in an interview with the Italian daily Avvenire, takes a stand similar to that of Cardinal Joseph Zen, stressing the importance of maintaining the integrity of the Church in China against the pressures imposed by Beijing.
