CWN Editor's Note: The Secretary General of Caritas Internationalis, the Church’s confederation of relief and development agencies, warned of a widespread looming food crisis in Africa, which imports 44% of its grain from Russia and Ukraine.

“In the Sahel region (map), more than 12.7 million people are exposed to a high vulnerable situation of hunger as well as exile from their rural homesteads,” said Aloysius John. “The different countries in the Horn of Africa (map) have a combined population of more than 160 million people, and 45% of this population will be affected by food insecurity.”
