Cardinal Tong named interim administrator of Hong Kong diocese

CWN Editor's Note: Cardinal John Tong Hon has been named apostolic administrator of Hong Kong, replacing Bishop Michael Yeung Ming-cheung, who died last week. Cardinal Tong, who had previously served as Bishop of Hong Kong from 2009 to 20017, is 79 years old; his appointment as apostolic administrator is obviously an interim measure. The appointment of a new bishop is a crucial one, since the Bishop of Hong Kong is the most visible public leader of the Church in China.
