New Jersey archdiocese loses challenge to state law on cemetery tombstone sales

CWN Editor's Note: A federal judge in New Jersey has dismissed a suit by the Archdiocese of Newark, which had challenged a new state law barring the sale of tombstones at cemeteries. The law was enacted to protect the makers of tombstones from what they saw as unfair competition. The archdiocesan cemeteries had been generating healthy profits by selling tombstones.
