CWN Editor's Note: The Diocese of Jowai, India, has refused a $10 million grant from the country’s tourism ministry, explaining that the grant—for which the diocese had not applied—appeared to be a tactic to gain support among Christian voters in the Meghalaya state for the ruling BJP Party. Bishop Victor Lyngdoh said that the Church “cannot take financial help now because it will give the wrong message to our people during this election time.”
