Holy See, Benin sign agreement

The Holy See and the Republic of Benin have signed an agreement on the juridical status of the Church in the West African nation.

The agreement “guarantees to the Church the possibility of carrying out her mission in Benin,” according to the Holy See Press Office. “In particular, the legal personality of the Church and her Institutions is recognized.”

The nation of 10.7 million is 34% Catholic, 24% Muslim, and 10% Protestant.
