Italian widow beatified
September 19, 2016
An Italian widow and mother of seven was beatified in her hometown of Codrongianos, Sardinia, on September 17.
Cardinal Angelo Amato, the prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, presided at the Mass of beatification of Blessed Elisabetta Sanna Porcu (1788-1857), which took place in the Basilica of the Holy Trinity of Saccargia.
Blessed Elisabetta Sanna Porcu spent the last decades of her life in Rome and received spiritual direction from St. Vincent Pallotti.
“She devoted herself entirely to prayer and to serving the sick and poor,” Pope Francis said following his September 18 Angelus address. “Her testimony is a model of evangelical charity, animated by faith.”
