Pope laments Istanbul terrorist attack

June 29, 2016

Pope Francis lamented the terrorist attack on the Istanbul airport following the recitation of the Angelus on June 29, the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul.

At least 41 people were killed and 230 were injured in the attack. While the motive for the June 28 attack is unknown, Turkey and Israel had agreed to restore full diplomatic relations the previous day.

“Yesterday evening, in Istanbul, a brutal terrorist attack was committed, which has killed and injured many people,” Pope Francis said. “We pray for the victims, for their families, and for the beloved people of Turkey. May the Lord convert the hearts of the violent, and sustain our feet on the way of peace.”
