Swiss bishops’ conference backs speedier asylum decisions
May 24, 2016
The justice and peace commission of the Swiss Bishops’ Conference has called for a “yes” vote in a June 5 referendum on changes to the nation’s asylum law.
If voters approved the changes, those seeking asylum will be offered free legal advice and will receive speedier decisions on their applications.
While the bishops’ commission expressed qualms about a reduction in time in appealing negative decisions, it said that the positive features of the proposed changes outweighed the negative ones.
