Cuban, Miami prelates mark 100th anniversary of patroness
May 12, 2016
Cuba’s bishops gathered at the National Shrine Basilica of Our Lady of Charity of El Cobre on May 10 to mark the one hundredth anniversary of Pope Benedict XV’s proclamation of Our Lady of Charity as patroness of Cuba.
On the same day, Archbishop Thomas Wenski celebrated Mass at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Charity in Miami. Recalling the four centuries of devotion to Our Lady of Charity, he prayed that through the Virgin’s intercession, Cubans might walk the “narrow path between the fear that succumbs to evil and the violence which under the illusion of fighting evil only worsens it.”
