English cardinal opposes exit from European Union
April 15, 2016
England's leading Catholic prelate has expressed his opposition to the drive for a British exit from the European Union.
"To start down the path of division almost inevitably leads to further division," said Cardinal Vincent Nichols of Westminster. He warned that a "Brexit" would cause "complex problems."
Cardinal Nichols said that his thinking is in line with a "long tradition in Christianity, and in Catholicism in particular, of believing in holding things together."
