Vatican basilica will be darkened for 'Earth Hour' on Saturday

St. Peter's basilica were be darkened for an hour on March 19, as the Vatican observes the "Earth Hour" organized by the World Wildlife Fund.

The lights on the dome and facade of the Vatican basilica will be turned off from 8:30 to 9:30 on Saturday evening. A statement from the Vatican press office said that the gesture is designed to encourage "the common will to offer the world a sustainable future and to rise to the challenge of climate change, showing that together it is possible to make a difference."

    Surely the Vatican has knowledge of the harm that WWF has caused to some desperately poor populations? Or WWF's elevation of the natural world over the human person? They view humans as a plague on the planet. What business does the Vatican have with such an organization?
