February 01, 2016
A Coptic schoolteacher in Egypt has been sentenced to a three-year prison term for insulting Islam, after his students filmed a video mocking the Islamic State, the Fides news service reports.
Using a mobile phone, four students at a school in the town of Beni Mazar filmed a skit in which a Muslim was depicted being executed while at prayer. The video-- a satire of the executions of Christians by the Islamic State-- provoked an uproar, and local authorities arrested the students and fined their families. The teacher, held responsible for his students' project, has now been sentenced to jail.
