Cardinal sees 4 characteristics in Pope’s ecumenical vision

January 26, 2016

Writing in L’Osservatore Romano, the president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity said that Pope Francis’s teaching on ecumenism shows a “striking” and “fundamental” continuity with his predecessors.

At the same time, said Cardinal Kurt Koch, the Pope’s ecumenical vision has four noteworthy particular characteristics: “the ecumenism of charity, brotherhood and friendship”; “the ecumenism of truth,” expressed in theological dialogue; spiritual ecumenism, expressed in prayer; and the “ecumenism of blood.”
