Vatican moving to eliminate purchases from companies with ties to forced labor

January 19, 2016

The Vatican has made a commitment to stop purchasing from corporations that have any involvement in forced labor, the prefect of the Secretariat for the Economy has announced.

Cardinal George Pell told the Global Foundation that the Vatican is working to "slave-proof" its entire supply chain. He encouraged other institutions to take the same steps.

Several major corporations-- including Nestle and Barilla-- had earlier told the same audience that they were working to eliminate forced labor from their own supply chains.
