Following mayor’s assassination, Mexican bishop laments ‘river of innocent blood’

Gisela Mota Ocampo, the mayor of Temixco, Mexico, was assassinated on January 2, a day after assuming office.

At her funeral Mass, Bishop Ramón Castro Castro of Cuernavaca condemned the murder, called for the repentance of her killers, and lamented the “failed system of public security in the state,” El Universal reported.
“It appears as if humanity has been inundated by a river of innocent blood,” the prelate added.
